How do I know if I should do the Moodle Starter or the Moodle Smarter course?

The Moodle Starter (introductory) course is for you if :

  1. you have never used Moodle before (even if you have experience of other VLEs such as First Class, Blackboard or WebCT)
  2. you have no experience of online learning or teaching but would like to learn more
  3. you have experience of Moodle as a user, but you’ve never set up activities or functions as an administrator in Moodle before
  4. you would like to set up a sample course to try out with learners in your teaching or training context, and to take this away with you at the end of the course

The Moodle Smarter (advanced) course is for you if :

  1. you already have experience of Moodle as an administrator
  2. you know how to set up the Moodle functions covered in the Moodle Starter course – see the Course Outline – or have done the Moodle Starter course with us in the past
  3. you already have a Moodle course that you can work on, or you are able to set up the basics of a course quickly, so as to work on advanced feature with us during the course
  4. you are using an older version of Moodle, and would like to update your skills to use the latest stable version
  5. you would like to learn about some of the more complex Moodle functions such as Lesson, Workshop, IMS Packages, SCORM, LAMS and Databases, or how to customise Moodle themes*

*Please note that the Moodle Smarter course does NOT cover installing or configuring Moodle on a server – you either need to work on an existing Moodle installation on your institution’s server, or (preferably) we will install a temporary copy for you on our own server. You will take this copy with you when you finish the course.
